Patrick Guest Stars On Another Podcast

There's a really great podcast that I've been going to for a few months now that has been a blast to listen to and participate in it. It's a true friend to the Film Geeks show.

The show is called Sound Check and it's hosted by one of the best on air personalities that'd I've listen to, Chris Kulturides (lovably know as CK). His show is current events, politics, and random topics that are really interesting (for example: what do you do when your new father-in-law invites himself and his wife on your and your new wife honeymoon cruise). The following are from the most recent shows posted and the links provided gets you to more shows. I've been a guest on this show from episode 34 or so. Have a blast listening to this really funny and interesting show. The show airs on Talkshoe, linked below, Thursdays at 9:35 PM.

Sound Check - Episode 45 - Troubled Time

"Episode 45 was filled with live callers and listeners and the jabs were being thrown. The debating was in full effect. We talk about so many topics in this episode that their are to many to tag. We do talk about the election, Iran vs. Iraq, MySpace and Facebook, the Red Cross in Nigeria and how it will effect gas prices, and some funny topics at the end of the show."

Sound Check - Episode 46 - SWAT Attack

"In Episode 46, the jabs keep coming and it was a great show. I went off on a hosting rant, a Talkshoe.com email from tech support, and many other topics."

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull - Notes

These are just some of the points we talked about. Feel free to add others in the comments section and we'll even read them on the air!

- I called what they would find in the warehouse
- Wanted to see more than the bloody Ark - wasn't even a good inside joke
- Definitely had a "today's movie" feel to it
- Had a lot more archeology to it and less action
- Story moved along quick
- Shia didn't nervous geek stutter at all
- Didn't like the ancient astronauts theory, the use of aliens, or UFOs and I'm a sci-fi nut!
- Nice to see Indy take out big guys and soldiers left and right
- Nuke explosion and fridge was kind of stupid
- Didn't really understand the alien at the end or what happen to the bad chick
- Nice to see Karen Allen come back and be the love interest rather than some 21 y/o chick
- Too much use of CGI
- Nice nod to Marcus and Jones Sr.
- Vine swinging was moronic, why did the monkeys attack?

Next week's topic is good and bad satire/spoof movies. Join us on Sunday at 8 PM EST for FILM GEEKS!

Support Film Geeks

Ok all you Film Geek fans out there. As you know we were recently contacted by Lionsgate to do a review of their new DVD "Speed Racer - The Next Generation - The Beginning". You can read it here - http://filmgeeksshow.blogspot.com/2008/05/speed-racer-next-generation-beginning.html

The representative who contacted us was Shawn Williams of M80im and we here at Film Geeks want to thank Mr. Williams for contacting us.

We also want to be able to give you, the fans, better reviews and even give away some prizes in contests. To do so, we've got to get our name out there.

So help us out by writing to Lionsgate and M80im. Their emails are provided respectfully:

general-inquiries@lionsgate.com

bizdev@m80im.com

In the email give them the link to the review and tell them you liked the review and would love to see Film Geeks get more opportunities to review their movies. However, only do this if you really did like the review. We here at Film Geeks don't lie in our reviews and we wouldn't want anyone else to about our work.

Also in the email tell them about what you like about our blog and that we even have a show and give them the link! - http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/14391

By doing this, you will be providing some great support for the Film Geeks show and the blog. In turn this will help us to do more stuff for you and to better improve what you hear and see.

So in your emails remember to include the review, the name Film Geeks, that you liked the review and would like to see us get more business from them, if you also want to throw in Mr. Shawn Williams' name too I'm sure we'd be helping him out as well by getting him known.

Thank you so much Film Geeks! You rock our socks off!

* - denotes ones to talk about

War Movies

Good recent war movies:
- Saving Private Ryan*
- Band Of Brothers*
- Platoon
- We Were Soliders
- Glory
- Gettysburg*
- Flags Of Our Fathers/Letter From Iwo Jima
- The Patriot
- Andersonville
- Braveheart*
- 300
- The Sharpe Series
- The Horatio Hornblower Series
- Hotel Rwanda
- Buffalo Soldiers (1997)

Good older war movies:
- Kelly's Heroes
- Patton*
- Sands Of Iwo Jima
- The Dirty Dozen
- Devil's Brigade
- The Great Escape
- Stalag 17
- All Quiet On The Western Front (1979)* - one of the best WWI movies
- Das Boot
- Tora! Tora! Tora!
- Pork Chop Hill* - Gregory Peck in a great role
- The Alamo (1960) - not historically accurate but an awesome John Wayne movie
- Zulu
- Midway
- John Paul Jones
- Midway
- PT 109*
- To Hell And Back*
- Go For Broke*
- Up Parascope
- Sahara

Bad war movies:
- Tears Of The Sun
- Thin Red Line
- Apocalypse Now* - not an overall bad movie, but it felt like there was no editor!
- 3 Kings* - Rip Off Of Kelly's Heroes but with a twist
- Full Metal Jacket*
- Pearl Harbor* - we're told never to forget what happened at Pearl Harbor. But this movie associates itself with the actual event that I find myself wanting to forget anything surrounding the events. I don't even recognize Hawaii as a state anymore.
- Windtalkers - Nick Cage takes a good premises for a movie and kills it with his "acting"
- Invasion USA (1952) - not the Chuck Norris movie - propaganda through and through
- Behind Enemy Lines* - 2 hours of a guy running. He outruns explostions too.
- The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission - no reason for this made for TV movie sequel. They must kill a Nazi general who is trying to assassinate Hitler. What?!
- The Alamo (2004) - this movie was just boring. There is such a thing as trying to be too historically accurate. Also Billy Bob Thorton is horribly miscast.
- Master And Commander - The Far Side Of The World* - there isn't a more possibly boring war movie.
- Jarhead* - A waste of my time.

Some ok, but not great war movies:
- U-571
- Green Berets
- Deer Hunter
- Enemy At The Gates - if more like the book, it would have been excellent
- Where Eagles Dare
- The Bridge On The River Kwai
- M*A*S*H*
- Good Morning Viewnam - Funny, but anything having to do with the VC and the war is just thrown in.
- Black Hawk Down - the best part is seeing Orlando Bloom fall
- Troy
- Stripes
- In The Army Now
- Down Parascope

Have a good week folks, and enjoy the movies!
